Dragonborn

PERSONALITY

STRENGTHS

Clever

Because of her family's wealth and standing, Juliel was allowed a full education, not simply manual labor. She is well read and has an extensive library, her favorite series being "The Wolf Queen." She is quick with trials and puzzles that she encounters during her trials, particularly of note during her task of retrieving the Horn. One being how she uses her Thu'um to open a door, creating a whirlwind to speed her across the room before the doors shut. She later shows her abilities in finding a compromise during the Civil War for a sustained truce, allowing her time to face and fight Alduin. Often, this cleverness manifests in how she chooses to carry out certain contracts. Tasked with killing Gaius Maro (one of the Emperor's guards), planting incriminating evidence on him and keeping the guards unaware, Juliel decides to have him instigate a fight with her, telling him quietly that after she kills him, she'll kill the Emperor. It worked and he attacked her, allowing her to escape without being accused of murder but also letting her accomplish her task.

She's particularly proud of her abilities in music and alchemy.

Loyal

Juliel is loyal to those that she claims for family. This is seen particularly with the Dark Brotherhood who accept her into their ranks and aid her in a number of different ways. She puts their safety above her own and takes any attacks or slights against them as a personal insult. She kills Cicero, particularly because he betrayed the Dark Brotherhood, as well as him wounding several members. When Astrid betrays the group, she kills both her and Commander Maro, who made the deal with Astrid. Despite her sorrow, she pushes ahead with Nazir and Babette, trying to rebuild what they had, as well as ensuring that they have another sanctuary and a place where they will be safe.

Because of his earlier kindness, Juliel is loyal to Jarl Ulfric and silently supports his claim to the High Throne. While she tries not to show that favoritism, she helps maneuver the truce negotiations so that he can claim several strongholds that will help him in the future. She also continually returns to Windhelm to help him whenever needed, dropping everything to come at his call.

Good Natured

Much of the way that Juliel faces adversity and threats is through humor and dry sarcasm. When taken to the Cidhna Mines for a crime she didn't commit and being informed that she will have to work, she quips "I'm sorry, I'm a bit deaf in this ear, could you repeat that?" She has a tendency to rely on humor, especially when frustrated. This allows her to move past a number of hostilities without fighting or to ignore slights against her. At the same time, she is polite and gracious, brought up to be courteous and well mannered. Despite her hard living, she still holds onto these lessons, leaving her with the bearing of a noblelady.

She forgives a great deal as well, including earlier insults. Arnbjorn is one of the figures that she allows a lot of leeway in his aggression, not taking it to heart and generally brushing it aside. While she does get angry and can respond with her temper, she falls back often on graciousness, especially with those she senses are kind beneath the surface.

Kind/Generous

Given her difficult life, Juliel has a tendency to show kindness to those that share a similar or worse fate. She always gives to beggars in the city, whether she knows they are thieves or not. She took in a stray dog that was left abandoned by his owner's death and she adopted a young girl that was orphaned in Windhelm. She has maternal instincts and looks after children in particular, like Aventus and the children of Honorhall Orphanage, killing their abuser without question. She befriends a number of children in the city, helping them whenever they ask her to. But she also has a soft spot for women who are put upon in similar ways to her. Muriel's encounter with Alain Dufont enraged her. She followed the woman's instruction, even using the poison that she brewed specially, using it so Muriel could have satisfaction in the revenge. She helps Carlotta in Whiterun by threatening a bard that was harassing her.

Her generosity and kindness come out much more after she assists in replanting the Gildergreen, devoting herself to better gods and the guarding of Skyrim against Alduin. When pressed by the Blades to kill the dragon Paarthurnax (who teaches and guides the Greybeards), Juliel refuses, indebted to him for his help and loyalty. She severs her relationship with Delphine and the Blades, rather than kill someone she feels is innocent.

Adventurous/Brave

Juliel is happiest on the road. She enjoys exploring and visiting different holds in Skyrim. This tendency leads her to different areas that often need help in one way or another. She prefers going alone into tombs, dungeons or vampire lairs, not needing assistance in these quests. When she was preparing to face a Master Vampire in Morthal, she was offered several volunteers to fight with her by the Jarl. She turned them down and sent them home. She has no fear of being on her own, especially in unknown terrain. She also charges headlong into battle, going from one adventure to the next without question or hesitation. She often picks up tasks or quests, even after coming out of harrowing experiences, not wanting to be idle for long. She's not someone content with a quiet life.

Weaknesses

Quick Tempered

Juliel as a tendency to respond with anger, particularly to insults given to others. When she witnesses two Nords insulting a Dark Elf, she gets into a brawl with one of the men, knocking him down and beating him up. If she's presented the opportunity to use her sword, she doesn't hesitate, more often turning to a fight rather than negotiation. She was investigating the Forsworn and the Conspiracy in Markarth when she was warned to keep away, wanting information and not about to be intimidated, she attacked the messenger until he was willing to talk.

These flares of temper pass quickly, but they pull her into a lot of trouble, including several barroom brawls that lead to her being arrested in Windhelm.

Vengeful

Adding to the Quick Temper, Juliel always desires revenge when she feels it is warranted. When Cicero attacked Arnbjorn and the Dark Brotherhood, there was no other option in her mind but revenge, killing him being the only way. Commander Maro's attack on the Sanctuary lead her to tracking him down and ripping out his heart, viewing it as justice, as he ripped out hers. Alain Dufont might have come from a contract from another, but for Juliel, she still felt some form of vengeance when she killed him in his lair.

Not all actions are done by violence. Bearing a grudge against her family, Juliel has cut them out of her mind and affections, refusing to talk about them and largely treating them as if they had died. After deceiving her and abandoning her son, this seemed to be the best revenge in her mind.

Stubborn

Juliel has a tendency to follow her own mind and isn't easily dissuaded from it. When she became pregnant, her parents warned her that she had to get rid of the baby or she would be punished. She refused to back down, finally forcing them to come some form of compromise with her. Her stubbornness, however, lead them to deceive her, finding other means to get the desired outcome that they wanted. This is further seen in the Dark Brotherhood where Juliel is given the signs of Astrid's coming betrayal, particularly her dissatisfaction with Juliel's place as the Listener and her relationship with Arnbjorn. Rather than accept that Astrid is dangerous, she ignores it and focuses on the act of killing the Emperor. This leads to her eventual betrayal and the deaths of most of the Dark Brotherhood.

She holds to her quest for vengeance and sorrow, refusing to let go of her grievances, even as they take her down a dark path and further into substance abuse. It isn't until she gets a rude awakening from Jarl Ulfric that pulls out of it, but a great deal of damage was done in the process.

Ruthless

She doesn't shy away from harsh executions or killings. Commander Maro is the prime example. Beating him back with her sword and wounding him severely, she knocks him to the ground and cuts out his heart. When Astrid begs Juliel to kill her, she does but with Astrid's blade and without pity. She has tortured for information, attacked others to get what she needs and killed if someone was in her way and refusing to back down. She takes contracts on the lives of others, and not bothering to really look into who she is killing, she fulfills them for profit. She enjoys and relishes her ability to survive this way, as well as to get further in her adventures through blood. She enjoys being a warrior.

Faithless/Selfish

Juliel doesn't hold a very strong code of honor. While she can be loyal, kind and generous, she isn't afraid of breaking vows when needed. She happily gets involved with a man when she is unmarried and young, not particularly concerned when she might be married and keep her honor. She has an affair with a married man, not thinking much about how this would affect his wife, lost in her own emotions. She doesn't have a particular god that she focuses on or worships, not thinking very much of them, while much of Skyrim is faithful to one god or another. She doesn't often swear allegiance to any side or battle, not in the Civil War or in the Holds, going where she likes and doing as she pleases. While she has her own sense of loyalty, it doesn't follow any sense of honor or explicit vows. It is entirely on her own whims.

HISTORY

Juliel was born to a Breton family set up as merchants in Rorikstead. She was the third child and first daughter born to them, though three sisters followed soon after. Like most girls in Skyrim, she was expected to know how to help the household, as well as protect herself. At the same time she was learning to weave, cook and farm, she was also taught to wield a sword and use a bow. Given the rough terrain and the dangers in Skyrim, it was important for every pair of hands to understand how to contribute as well as to protect the homestead. There might not be dragons any longer, but there were bandits, wolves and giants, as well as a looming civil war.

At the age of 16, a stranger came to Rorikstead called "Alain Dufont". He presented himself as a traveler and spent time in the village, paying particular attention to Juliel. He promised to marry her, making her a ring out of a yellow wildflower and took her to bed. Being young and idealistic, she believed him. It wasn't a surprise to her parents when he left without a word one early morning. They had tried to warn her, but she was too stubborn to listen and suffered the early heartbreak common to most girls in similar situations. She discovered she was pregnant not long after. Ashamed and frustrated with her refusal to rid herself of the child, Juliel's parents made a bargain with her. When she was starting to show, her mother would take her to Solitude to wait out the rest of her pregnancy. For the sake of their reputation, she would then travel to High Rock to stay with family and in return, her mother would claim the child as her own. Juliel agreed. She gave birth to a son and a few weeks later, she journeyed by ship to High Rock.

She remained there for 5 years, never hearing from her parents. Her cousins continued her education, focusing particularly on the bow for her (which she showed a natural talent for). When she turned 21, her cousin gave her an ultimatum. She couldn't stay with them any longer, as they had enough mouths to feed. Either she return home or she married. Still holding out hope for Alain, Juliel chose to return to Skyrim, wanting to see her son.

Her ship was wrecked off the coast near Dawnstar. One of the few survivors, Juliel trekked through the icy tundra, making her way first to Dawnstar and then Windhelm. She took odd jobs to earn more coin for herself, particularly helping Jarl Ulfric with a string of murders taking place in the city, earning both his respect and the guards. They started a friendly relationship after that, one that would last for years and several trials. Eventually, Juliel traveled to Rorikstead, finding her home abandoned with no word left for her. According to the townspeople, her family decided to move elsewhere in Skyrim, though they did not say where they were going. There was no sign of a child with them either.

Hearing rumors about a young boy named Aventus Aretino, Juliel met with him. Assuming she was a member of the Dark Brotherhood, an assassin, he asked her to murder Grelod the Kind of Honorhall Orphanage. Shocked by the stories of mistreatment, she paid a visit to the orphanage, confirming what Aventus said was true. She murdered Grelod, reassured Aventus and continued her travels. Not long after, she received a mysterious letter simply saying "We know".

She was stolen from her bed one night by the Dark Brotherhood, taken by Astrid to an abandoned shack where she was given a choice. Three figures were bound and covered with hoods. One had a contract on their head; Juliel had to choose which it was and kill them. Following the instructions, she chose the Khajiit, who proudly declared he was a murderer and a defiler of daughters. The choice, in the end, didn't matter. It was that she followed Astrid's instructions and killed as she was told. Astrid, impressed, invited Juliel to join the Dark Brotherhood. There, she was given some semblance of family with a number of members that were friendly or at least welcoming. Though it was Arnbjorn, Astrid's husband, that gave Juliel a great deal of hostility.

One of the first contracts she received was from a woman named Muriel, who wished for a faithless lover and liar to be killed. As it turned out, it was Alain Dufont, who Juliel learned was a bandit leader and a grifter. Facing him in his hideout, he didn't recognize her or have any memory of their time together. Disgusted, Juliel killed him and left her flower ring on his corpse. When she returned, she asked a few of the members of the Dark Brotherhood to help her find word about her son, whether or not he lived. Meanwhile, she set up a house in Falkreath and adopted Sofie, an orphan from Windhelm, as well as a dog named Meeko.

The Dark Brotherhood was soon visited by the Night Mother, one of the leading figures of their organization, and her keeper, Cicero, a mad jester with a fixation on the old ways. Astrid was openly hostile to change and anyone threatening her authority. Believing that someone was plotting with Cicero, she charged Juliel with sneaking into the jester's rooms to see who he spoke to at night. Hiding in the Night Mother's coffin, she was suddenly confronted with the woman's voice, telling her to meet Amaund Motierre and to accept a contract from him. She was also told to share with Cicero the words "darkness rises when silence dies", this was the secret phrase to tell him that the Listener has been chosen. The Listener was the conduit to the Night Mother, the one to receive the contracts that the Dark Brotherhood must take.

Astrid reacts with disbelief, refusing at first to acknowledge Juliel's new role. Shaken and frightened, Juliel turned to Arnbjorn, sleeping with him unintentionally. Eventually, Astrid agrees for Juliel to meet with Amaund Motierre who tasks the Dark Brotherhood with killing the Emperor. Juliel takes the lead in the quest, killing several notable figures, including the Emperor's cousin at her wedding. Arnbjorn, meanwhile, responded callously to their shared night together. It's only when Cicero, angered by Astrid's mockery of the Night Mother, attacked her and another member that things changed. Arnbjorn chased Cicero to Dawnstar where he was wounded. There, Juliel found him and tended to him, sending him back to the sanctuary while she finished Cicero off. Despite his pleas, she brutally killed him for betraying her family and injuring the man she was falling in love with. She and Arnbjorn reconciled and began an affair, exchanging tokens (she gifting him a wolf necklace and he giving her a wolf ring).

During this time, one of the members, Veezera, located Juliel's son, now named Blaise. He was abandoned in the woods as her mother was returning home and was rescued by a family in Solitude. However, the parents died serving the Legion in the Civil War. Left orphaned, Blaise relied on the charity of a nearby farmer who let him sleep in the stables in exchange for work. Reunited with her son, Juliel took him home to Falkreath, eventually telling him the truth of who she was.

The day came to kill the Emperor. Traveling to Solitude and posing as a chef, Juliel poisoned his food. The man died, but it was revealed by the head of his guards that he was only a body double. Someone in the Dark Brotherhood made a bargain, selling Juliel out in exchange for immunity and a chance to continue the organization as it was. Backing out of the deal, the man decides to kill both Juliel and the whole Brotherhood. She escaped with her life, but returning to the sanctuary, she found it set on fire and under attack. There, she witnessed Arnbjorn's death in battle and found the corpses of the rest of her family. Only two other members survived, Nazir and Babette. Following instructions from the Night Mother, Juliel found Astrid inside, near death and badly burned. She revealed she was the one to betray the Dark Brotherhood, wanting things to go back as they were. She asked Juliel to kill her and fulfill the contract, asking her to keep the Dark Brotherhood alive. Juliel killed her, but felt little pity for the woman.

Despite the setback, Juliel moved forward with the contract and killed the Emperor, as well as Amaund Motierre by the Emperor's request. Broken by her loss and hurting, Juliel traveled from inn to inn, losing herself in drink and random contracts. At one of the inns, she met a man named "Sam" who challenged her to a drinking contest. Several days later, with no memory of what happened, she tracked down Sam to find that he was one of the Daedric Princes, Sanguine, looking for amusement and drew her into his games. This set Juliel on a path to meet each of the Daedric Princes, accepting their tasks in exchange for rewards and weapons with great power. It was Boethiah and Namira that pushed her to act in ways that would come to haunt her. At Boethiah's request, she murdered a childhood friend, Erik in cold blood. Namira had her bring a priest for her followers who eventually fed on him. Juliel took a bite of his flesh, but was so disgusted with herself, she turned to drink and skooma to try and forget the memories.

Ulfric intervened when she was arrested for a barroom brawl, shaking sense into her. He pushed her to remember her children, admonishing her for nearly letting despair to get the better of her, especially for a man that was never really hers. Ashamed, Juliel traveled to Whiterun to look for purpose and some means of cleansing herself. The Temple of Kynareth asked for her help in reviving the Gildergreen tree. The selfless act and the pure ritual helped Juliel, moving her away from substances as she attempted to wash away the sins of her past. She visited a bow master, Agni, to hone her skills and to become a better warrior. Returning to her children, she did her best to forget her past actions and to build a better life for them.

Passing by Helgen, she came across ruins caused by a dragon attack. She moved to warn the residents of Riverwood and Whiterun. Charged by the Jarl to help take down the dragon, Juliel joined his soldiers at the West Watchtower. The battle was difficult, but eventually the dragon was killed. After, the creature seemed to burn, its soul causing it to turn to a crisp, transferring suddenly into Juliel. It was then that she learned the legend of the Dragonborn and that she likely was one. This meant she could absorb the souls of dragons and speak their language, a devastating Thu'um that held greater power than basic magic. She was summoned by the Greybeards, an ancient order that studied Thu'um, left relatively idle because of the disappearance of dragons and dragonborn.

She traveled the Thousand Steps where she began training for her abilities, which came quickly to her and much stronger than the Greybeards imagined. She was given a quest by them to retrieve the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller in the middle of a draugr tomb. Unfortunately, someone had beaten her to the horn, leaving a note for her to meet them at the inn in Riverwood. There, Juliel met Delphine, a member of an order called "The Blades." She informed Juliel that dragons were returning because of Alduin, the World Eater. He was a mythical and very old dragon with the ability to destroy worlds and raise dragons from the dead. Juliel and Delphine traveled to Kynesgrove where they witnessed this firsthand, eventually killing the dragon that Alduin raised. Delphine told her that their work was only just beginning and gage her the Horn to take to the Greybeards. There, in their temple, the Greybeards formally recognized Juliel as the Dragonborn and taught her the full shout Unrelenting Force.

It is here she is pulled into another world and a game...

APPEARANCE

ABILITIES

Juliel is a skilled archer, able to fell any enemy and animal from yards away, often in low visibility conditions. She has been noted to take down a dragon with one shot, causing him to crash to the ground. She's also a talented swordswoman, skilled enough to take on seasoned warriors. Like many others in Skyrim, she is versed in weaving, cooking, and gardening. She makes her own clothes and armor, her own potions and poisons, as well as food that she takes on her adventures. She's extremely picky about her food, preferring her own cooking to something she can buy from others. She can also make soap and enchant her weapons and armor.

She isn't a practicing mage, but her true magical ability is in her Dragon Shouts. She knows a few shouts, in particular, Unrelenting Force, which can knock someone off their feet and several feet in the air. It can knock dragons out of the sky and sometimes turn someone to ash. She also has the completed Clear Skies, which can clear harsh weather for a short period of time. Most of the shouts she knows are not complete and so aren't fully effective; she only knows the first word to those shouts.

Her current uncompleted Shouts:

Kyne's Peace
Marked For Death
Slow Time
Whirlwind Sprint

She doesn't have a particular god that she focuses on or worships, not thinking very much of them, while much of Skyrim is faithful to one god or another. She doesn't often swear allegiance to any side or battle, not in the Civil War or in the Holds, going where she likes and doing as she pleases. While she has her own sense of loyalty, it doesn't follow any sense of honor or explicit vows. It is entirely on her own whims.

Nightmares: The Daedra, particularly Boethiah and Namira. She followed their faithful in several dark actions, including murdering a childhood friend for Boethiah's amusement, and having a bite of human flesh at Namira's instruction. Also the slaughtering of her "family" the Dark Brotherhood.

I know that everyone comes from different worlds, never mind how odd that is. So apparently that means that a number of the inns here serve food that is suited for others. At least you can have something you can enjoy, but for me, I don't think I can take another day of that swill. If you're interested, I have a number of dishes from the best kitchen in all of Skyrim. Apple cabbage stew, sweet rolls, blueberry pastries, the best you can imagine. I can't exactly hunt here, but if you bring fresh meat, I can make some chops and roasted delicacies.

You probably guessed this kitchen is my kitchen. Believe me, you won't come away hungry and you'll never want to touch another plate again. If you need a meal, come and find me. I'm Juliel, just Juliel here.
